News from our BAHS students at Otago

Last year, two BAHS students from Cohort 66, Jennifer and Lexi, travelled to Dunedin, New Zealand, to join the double degree programme. This past March, Ajarn Lauren, a member of our programme staff, also visited them and met with academic staff at the University of Otago to discuss further details of the collaboration.

News from our BAHS students at Otago

Ajarn Lauren recently visited our partner university, the University of Otago in Dunedin, from 23–25 March. During the visit she had the chance to meet with colleagues who support students in the double degree programme, including Hunter Hatfield, Associate Dean International for the Te Kete Aronui Division of Humanities, Paola Voci, Director of Global Studies, and Balazs Kiglics, Teaching Fellow in Asian Studies and Global Studies. It was wonderful to connect in person and learn more about the teaching and support provided to students during their time at Otago.

Lauren was also given a tour of the campus, which included the residential colleges, student facilities, and the university’s impressive library. The visit offered a great opportunity to see the learning environment our students experience while studying in Dunedin. Lauren was also able to sit in on several Global Studies lectures and observe the international classroom atmosphere, where students from different backgrounds share ideas and perspectives.

One of the highlights of the trip was catching up with our students Ziming Huang (Jennifer) and Eaindray Khin Phyu (Lexi) from the ’66 BAHS batch. They are currently in the first year of their two-year double degree programme at Otago and spoke enthusiastically about their experiences so far. Both students are taking a diverse range of papers, including Linguistics, Sociology, and courses within Global Studies, and are clearly making the most of the academic opportunities available to them. Jennifer and Lexi also shared some advice for students who may be considering the programme in the future: be bold, be prepared, and make the most of the experience!
