Our Story

The BA Humanities and Sustainability program, known among students as BAHS, was conceived in 2021 and welcomed its first cohort in the 2022 academic year. The program was created to address two key needs. First, it sought to establish a fully English-taught program within the faculty, serving both Thai students and international learners in Thailand and abroad, to provide a global standard of humanistic education.

BAHS provides a learning environment where nature inspires intelligence and strengthens social skills.

Secondly, the program responds to the growing demand in the job market for graduates with well-rounded knowledge and adaptable human skills. Recognising this shift, the curriculum drafting committee embarked on a design process that reimagined the way humanities education could be structured in Thai universities. This transformation involved moving away from the traditional “major” system toward a more flexible curriculum, enabling students to develop specialised knowledge and skills while maintaining breadth and versatility.

Another challenge in curriculum design was to align the humanities with the current socioecological transformations, which are no longer limited to distant regions but can affect professional organizations directly. We have reached a moment where we, as 'homo economicus,' must fundamentally alter our methods of production and profit generation. Otherwise, there will be no resources left for us to consume. The program's goal is to produce humanities graduates who possess the practical skills to help organizations thrive sustainably upon graduation. We aim to nurture students who will become key contributors within organizations and societies, actively shaping and sustaining our economies for the benefit of fellow human beings and all living beings on this planet.
