BAHS' teaching staffs brought the "planetary humanities lab" to showcase

By BAHS program

From July 25th to 27th, the Media Arts and Design program of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Chiang Mai University organized the first national symposium on media arts and design. The symposium was not limited solely to academics and practitioners who study media arts but was also intended to be an interdisciplinary event covering individuals from other fields whose research engages with the practice and media art platform.

Dr. Pasoot, Dr. Lauree, and Dr. Wasinee, members of the Planetary Humanities Lab at the Faculty of Humanities, participated in the symposium and presented their in-progress research projects to the diverse audience representing various academic disciplines. Dr. Pasoot, the key figure in the lab, emphasized that the study and research of the humanities have immense potential to address many global problems. The recently established Planetary Humanities initiative aims to bring together individuals working in various fields within and outside the humanities to contemplate how humanistic knowledge and tools can contribute to mitigating ecological problems in our world today.

The opportunity to present their research at the symposium on media arts is one of the efforts to demonstrate to the public that the humanities remain integral to the process of finding solutions. Furthermore, through collaboration and engagement with other fields like arts and design, the humanities and their counterparts become even more promising in capturing the public's attention regarding these issues.
